Skillman Avenue - w/frame 16x20

$0.00
Sold Out

9x12” with frame measures approx 16.5x20” // acrylic mixed media on canvas // 2019

This piece holds a special place in my heart—it is my very first work that I have painted of flowers. These flowers to be specific are roses. For 7 years I lived in a flat in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. From the street, the building didn’t look like much, but when you walked through you found yourself in a secret garden surrounded by roses, ivy, tulips, and other bulbs along with my yearly veggie garden. The bulbs were brought back to me from Holland by a two-time Olympic medalist on the USA snowboarding team. Prior to this location, we shared a rooftop garden in a loft up the block—Graham Avenue. I was so sad when I had to leave that loft but with love and time, this new oasis with these wild and unruly roses and the surprising variety of bulbs became home. The entire back fence was entirely covered in ivy and wild growths of roses of bright pink, white, peach along with the left side of the fence flanked with deep blood red and fuschia roses. Many musicians and other creative types spent much time in this yard surrounded by this beauty. One favorite memory was when the Black Lips and Night Beats played a show at the House of Vans situated at the edge of Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Afterward, they hosted an after-party at a Williamsburg hotel rooftop, then after the after-party, most of the band and a handful of friends marched back to Skillman Avenue with me where we built a fire, played guitars and watched the sun come up through the roses and ivy. This apartment also acted as my first real art studio when I started painting in late 2014. This piece has many layers of significance and I hope that it finds an equally special forever home.

Media: Acrylic + Oil Stick + Graphite + Tempra on .75” Canvas with vintage gold leaf frame.

The frame is of a vintage nature and may have some imperfections—please look at images closely to inspect frame and/or contact me with questions. I am willing to sell the painting without the frame for $675 however, I highly recommend purchasing as presented. The gold frame beautifully adds to the glow of the floral details.

**Colors may vary slightly from computer screen to actual artwork.
