Reverse Heist no. 2 // 36x36
Reverse Heist no.2 // 36x36 // 2024 // Acrylic, spray paint, oil stick on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed and dated.
Reverse Heist was specifically created in 2024 to be showcased in Sonder a pop-up immersive art exhibition in Minneapolis, MN hosted by the Haus of Sonder. This work was painted alongside 2 other works of the same dimension and two larger works at 48x48” and 48x60”.
The work shows as bold, bright, and vibrant yet dark + moody at the same time as a result of the artist using color theory known to create vibration. Fluorescent red and fluorescent paint vibrate next to various shades of blue oil paint. The work also utilizes Pantones 2024 color of the year Peach Fuzz along with matte + satin black acrylic paint. The use of matte, satin, and gloss paint with specific areas of the work incorporating gloss spot varnish creates a feeling of depth and movement, a technique that is new to the artist.
The piece got its name from my lifelong creative partner who helped persuade me to install it mid-show after a decision had been made not to show the work due to a few small areas where slightly wet oil paint had yet to cure.
